Transforming Climate Action using artificial intelligence (TCA-AI)

An Ocean Frontier Institute collaboration on AI and ocean data, including the VAC Lab's leak detection research.

Overview

TCA-AI brings together data integration, ocean data assimilation, and artificial intelligence to support climate research. The project combines observations from sources such as the Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System, ocean carbon atlases, and industry partners to advance deep learning for climate modelling.

Research goals include reducing uncertainty in climate predictions, developing models that handle real-world data quality challenges, improving environmental DNA analysis, and supporting automated monitoring of ocean biodiversity. The project also explores sustainable approaches to AI models.

Leak detection at the VAC Lab

The VAC Lab’s leak detection research is part of TCA-AI. This work contributes to the project’s broader research on artificial intelligence and ocean data.

Collaboration

Matthew Hamilton at Memorial University is part of the project team alongside Christopher Whidden, Tushar Sharma, and Evangelos Milios at Dalhousie University.
